Introduction

Management Information Systems (MIS) use technology, including data collection as well as hardware and

software to allow companies to make decisions to keep their business relevant and profitable. In today’s

business climate, information systems are an essential part of how an organization runs their business.

The aim of this project is to illustrate how a restaurant group/hospitality company uses MIS in order to meet

the needs of its customers.

This project will assess how the company implements MIS to integrate software and computer systems to organize data, streamline operations and to meet customer expectations. It will also show how such systems also allow the company to remain profitable through planning and decision making. This must also be completed while maintaining a competitive strategy.

We as a team were able to analyze a company that one of the team members, William Caudo, works for. The company is Chef’s International, Inc. and bills itself as a Jersey Shore based hospitality company. The company owns fourteen restaurants and venues in the Jersey Shore area and its statement on the website states that “Our family of restaurants is dedicated to creating memorable coastal casual experiences through fresh food and exceptional service”.

The fourteen restaurants and venues within the Chef’s International, Inc family are: Baker’s American Bar & Grille; which William works for, 9th Ave Pier, Marina Grille, Anchor Tavern, Rod’s Tavern, Frankie’s Bar & Grill, The Wharfside Seafood & Patio Grill, Patio Bar at the Wharfside, The Lobster Shanty, The Sunset Ballroom, Waterstreet Bar & Grille, The Cabin Restaurant, Escondido Mexican Cuisine & Tequila Bar and Moore’s Tavern & Sports Bar. We interviewed Heather Rudnick who is the manager for Baker’s American Bar & Grille and Brendan Glynn who is the regional manager for Chef’s International, to learn more about the company, the management information systems they use within the business and to learn more about the company and its strategies for running the business.

Some of those information systems employed by the company include reservation system software, ordering/supply system software, social media advertising, point of sale systems, etc. For example, social media is an information system which allows the sharing of content between businesses and customers. Baker’s American uses Instagram to promote special events in order to bring in customers. Some examples are the all day happy hour on Super Bowl Sunday, special happy hours in the fall, discounts on holiday gift cards, etc.
